4 Magic rules for Forms
While reading Web Form Design by Luke, I learned some super simple but powerful ideas for forms.
Forms can be tricky. People get stuck, confused, or frustrated. But there are four magic rules that make forms way easier to use.
1. Make it hurt less
Don't ask too many hard questions at once. The simpler the form, the less people get tired or frustrated. Ask only what you really need.
2. Show the way clearly
Make it obvious what to do next. Arrows, hints, labels, placeholders, anything that helps people know where to go. No guessing, no confusion.
3. Think about who's using it
Different people need different help. Some know a lot, some know nothing. Make sure your form works for everyone, not just you.
4. Talk nicely
Use words that make sense. No fancy jargon, no confusing terms. Just simple words that everyone can understand.
These four rules are tiny, but they make a huge difference. If your forms follow these, people will fill them faster, easier, and without frustration.
It's not just for websites. You can use this in apps, tools, or anywhere you ask someone to do something.
The best part: forms don't have to be scary. They can be simple, helpful, and even a little fun.
